The Bronx is one of the five boroughs of New York City and is located north of Manhattan and Queens, and south of Westchester County. It is the fourth most populated of the five boroughs. The community was named for Jonas Bronck who settled here in 1639 (he was a Swedish sea captain). The Bronx is the only borough of New York that is part of the mainland as the other four are islands. Hence the tourist attractions in Bronx New York is something special.
The Bronx is considered to be the most diverse area in the country. It is the only New York City borough with a Hispanic majority, many of whom are Dominican and Puerto Ricans. A few years ago the Bronx was famous for high crime rates but it has changed a lot in the last 10 to 15 years, thanks to the efforts from NYPD and community leaders. As Bronx is full of attractions for tourists so I offer some, according to me, the most important places of tourist attraction in Bronx New York that are really worth visiting, and bronx museum of the arts.
New York Botanical Garden
It is a museum of plants, a specific research organization, and an educational institution. The New York Botanical Garden is one of the greatest botanical gardens in the world and the largest in any city in the United States. The garden is open in the year from Tuesday – Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm.
There are 50 gardens and different plant collections. The garden has also a wide variety of events happening every day. It is one of the best botanical gardens in the world.
Yankee Stadium New York City
The stadium was built on 24 acres of public parkland. All of the old problems like foodservice, narrow corridors, tight corners and steep slopes of the ramps have been resolved. You can find here elevators, escalators, and ramps in well thought out areas. It is the best place in town or maybe in the world to watch a baseball game.
When you walk into Yankee Stadium, you walk to the place where some of the greatest moments in baseball history occurred. It is a special place for baseball fans.
Bronx Zoo In New York
It is the largest metropolitan zoo in the United States and one of the best zoological parks in the world. The Bronx Zoo is open 365 days of the year. On Wednesdays the entrance is free but it is recommended not going on this day because of the crowds and you will feel less rushed on other days.
The Bronx Zoo is a house for more than 6,000 animals, including some of nature’s rarest species. The exhibits here are excellent, the place is huge, and there is a lot of fun for the whole family.
Wave Hill Gardens Bronx
Wave Hill Gardens, Inc., was formed in since 1965 as a non-profit corporation. The mission of Wave Hill is to explore the interaction between people and their natural environment. Generally, the Wave Hill Garden seeks to foster connections between people and nature.
It is a wonderful place to spend a day just walking around. It is a great place for photographers and artists. There are also classes, lecturers and exhibits as well.
The Bronx County Historical Society
It was formed in 1955 to preserve the heritage of 1.2 million people with a rich diversity of cultural and ethnic backgrounds who live in the Bronx. The Society also offers a variety of programs for the tourist, casual visitors, business person, student or researcher interested in learning more about contemporary life in the Bronx.
City Island Bronx New York
It is a small island located at the extreme western end of Long Island Sounds, east of Eastchester Bay and south of Pelham Bay. It is an urbanized area. The city island has the look and feel of a small New England fishing village. There are a gas station, a pharmacy, two small supermarkets, a bank, a hardware store, and a variety of other small shops. Mostly the island is famous for its numerous seafood restaurants and antiques stores.
Many people, when visiting New York city put the Bronx on their places “not to visit” as it is not generally recommended safe tourist destinations. But it has changed nowadays and the Bronx is full of safe parts which are worth to visit. Some of them I mentioned above but there is still a long list of interesting places in the beautiful Bronx.
